VGMAs 2018: Ebony nominated for Artiste of the Year; Check her competitors


Late dancehall diva, Ebony Reigns has been nominated in the Artiste of the Year category at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

She faces competition from Joe Mettle, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie and Stonebwoy. This was announced at the nominees party held on Saturday evening.

Ebony shot to fame in 2017 as her songs, ‘Poison’, ‘Sponsor’, ‘Hustle,’ ‘Maame Hwe,’ and ‘Date Ur Fada’ garnered massive airplay.

Her level of dominance, relevance and popularity was so glaring that she topped charts, performed at almost all the big events, making headlines wherever she performed.

Considering the successes she chalked in 2017, conversations about her chances of winning the ultimate Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards were rife before her sudden demise.

Born Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng, Ebony died in a collision on the Sunyani-Kumasi highway while returning to Accra after visiting her mother in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The Jeep SUV, in which she was travelling, crashed into a VIP bus near at a section of the highway where road construction was ongoing. Two others who were in the car, [Frankie Kuri and Corporal Vondee Francis Atsu said to be her friend and bodyguard respectively] also died. Her driver however survived.
